Terminal blocks are electrical wiring products used to connect electrical cables. They replaced duct tape, twists and pliers that used before. Let's talk about what types of terminal blocks exist and highlight the benefits of using them.

Types and design

Since terminal blocks are bought for wiring in houses, commercial indoor and outdoor, then manufacturers release them in large variety. In total, there are 3 main types of products:

1. Screw. They are also divided into 3 types: through, barrier and end. They differ in the shape of the conductive metal wiring. At the checkpoints terminal connections "cage" sleeve, in the case of barrier - based on contact plates, and at the end - it has the shape of a cap.
2. Presses. The cable core is fixed inside the wedge plate with lever.

Advantages of terminal connections:

• Easy to install. A screwdriver is sufficient.

The connection method is chosen depending on the material of manufacture of the cores, the number of wires and operating conditions.

Selection rules

For screw terminal connections, the wire size is critical. It is better to purchase those products that are designed for a screwdriver with flat slot.

When choosing barrier terminal blocks, pay attention to quality stamping. Sometimes the edges are erased, and it becomes impossible with high quality tighten the wires. Separately, it should be said about the material of the products. In practice, barrier terminal blocks made of fluoroplastic show themselves best. or ABS plastic, and bakelite products are often destroyed during installation.

It is easier to choose push or spring terminals as they are designed for connections of conductors of small cross-section. But for spring products, it is desirable to have transparent back of the case, so that you can assess the reliability fixing the wires in the cage.
